What site are you working on at the moment?
New student accommodation blocks and site wide infrastructure at Worcester University's city campus.
What's the best building site you have worked on and why?
It has to be Centrica Southampton. As the majority of works were mechanical and electrical services, SES was appointed principal contractor.
Although the contract was primarily a refurbishment within an occupied building, and the work was predominantly performed via night shift working, the client was extremely accommodating.
Communication between all parties was excellent throughout the entire contract, making the process of handing floors over between client and contractor every morning and evening effortless.
And the worst?
Relationships and communication are key to delivering a profitable project on programme. I would not want to offend any single person or company in particular by naming and shaming a project that was not as successful as it could or should have been.
What is the most dangerous thing you have seen someone do on site?
Standing on top of scaffold boards balanced on the top hand rail of a scissor lift while elevated to full extension to gain extra height to install brackets. However, they were at least wearing harnesses!
What is the most frequently broken health and safety rule?
Not wearing general PPE. It is amazing how often you still see people either working or wandering around building sites without hard hats and high-visibility vests.
