Acheson wins Portland housing deal

By Will Mann

Dorchester-based construction company Acheson has won a contract to build 77 low carbon homes on a former Royal Navy site in Portland, Dorset

Client is developer Zero C.

All the homes will be built to level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, and will feature wood pellet stoves, rainwater harvesting systems, and solar water heating.

Within the 2ha development there will be 19 affordable homes, which will be built for the Magna Housing Association.

The work is scheduled to be completed in December 2011.

The project is the latest phase in a £40m regeneration of Portland's former Royal Navy Air Station. It will be the venue for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games sailing events.
