TV celebrity Kevin McCloud has finally won planning permission for a 42-home sustainable development in Swindon.
Hab Oakus, a joint venture between McCloud’s development company, Hab (Happiness, Architecture, Beauty), and housing group GreenSquare, was given the green light for the scheme on the site of a former caravan park and plant nursery off Swindon’s Northern Road.
The Grand Designs presenter told The Times that the planning process for the scheme, conceived three years ago, had been "gruelling" and that Hab Oakus had to overcome some concerns about parking for the scheme.
The homes, which will mostly be affordable housing, will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The project is due to start on site in the new year with completion by Christmas 2010.
The houses were designed by Glenn Howells Architects.
