The boss of South Wales-based contractor Cuddy Group has launched a house-building business, Primrose Homes.

Mike Cuddy says the new venture will create 30 jobs, including architects, surveyors, project and site managers, bricklayers and carpenters.

Its inaugural development in the Vale of Neath consists of 81 homes, ranging from two and three-bedroom terraces to four-bedroom detached houses, with the first completed properties coming on to the market in 2010.

Future developments are planned for the Vale of Glamorgan, Newport, and the Gower Peninsula near Swansea.

Cuddy Group is known primarily as a demolition contractor, and also operates in land remediation, nuclear decommissioning, civil engineering, and plant hire. It was founded in 1983.

Applications to build new homes during the last quarter were up 18% in Wales compared to the same period in 2008, according to National Housebuilding Council figures.
