John Sisk & Son has started to erect the frame of the new Pavilion building on Weston-super-Mare.
Sisk beat Laing O'Rourke and Miller to the £20-£30m project earlier this year.
Commenting on the structure of the Pavilion Les Nicholls, director western region, Sisk commented: “We have already completed a great deal of work on the structure, the steel beams underneath and the new metal deck but this is the first visible sign that the Grand Pier is really on its way to being rebuilt.”
The specially constructed structural decking is still being laid and this work will continue keeping just ahead of the framing works. The roof lining and cladding will start once the front section of the building frame is erected which is scheduled before the end of November.
Pier owner Kerry Michael said, "Following months of hard work by all the design team and more than £9million having been invested to date, we are delighted to see the building rising above the deck. We are all looking forward to when it is watertight so we can start installing all the fabulous rides and attractions we have gathered together from all around the World. Next June and the re-opening can't come soon enough".
More than 1,100t of steel is being supplied by local firm Hayley Engineering for the project.
