Polish worker killed after fall from window
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is to hold a safety awareness day for Polish construction workers in London tomorrow (Saturday) – just days after the industry claimed the life of Tomasz Sarachman.
The HSE event at Hammersmith town hall is being held as a direct result of an influx of foreign labour into the UK as English firms recruit directly from abroad to help cope with the lack of skilled workers. With many workers not speaking English, the risks to safety increase significantly.
Sarachman died last Monday as he fitted windows at a housing development for Charles Henderson Construction. The Pole was sitting in a window frame when he fell 8m on to some railings below.
The HSE will not be investigating the incident after ruling the death a misadventure as Sarachman was found to be working in an area where he shouldn’t have been.
