Emirates Stadium completed ahead of schedule

Emirates Stadium, in contrast to the beleaguered Wembley, has been successfully completed ahead of schedule. The 60,000 seat stadium has already hosted its first game, the Dennis Bergkamp testimonial match, on Saturday 22 July.

Sir Robert McAlpine handed over the stadium to Arsenal Football Club on 14 July, ahead of time and on budget.

Arsenal Director, Ken Friar, said: "The project has gone extremely well and we would like to thank Sir Robert McAlpine, and the whole project team, who have done an absolutely fantastic job for us and delivered probably the best club stadium in Europe."
