North Midland Construction (NMC) pushed turnover higher to £180m in 2006, representing a rise of more than £20m.
Financial results (12 months to 31 December) show pre-tax profit stronger at £5.5m (£3.9m).
Chairman Robert Moyle said: “Structurally, the group has not altered from last year and the concentration has been maintained on organic growth. NMC’s geographic boundaries have been expanded.”
Civil engineering is still NMC’s largest division, with turnover running close to £60m. Contributions from the four other main divisions were: Nomenca (£37m); North Midland Building (£36m); Utilities (£31m); and Highways (£15m). Turnover from joint venture work between NMC civils and Nomenca, the group’s water specialist, has been double-counted.
Moyle said: “Engineering, sadly, seems to be an unattractive career for the young. In an attempt to correct this trend and attract more recruits, closer relationships are being forged with schools and universities.”
