H+H becomes first aircrete firm to gain EEAS approval

H+H UK has staked a claim to being the first aircrete manufacturer and the first firm in the precast concrete sector to achieve accreditation under the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme (EEAS), the UK's independent benchmark for energy efficiency.

Accreditation under the scheme means having to maintain and improve on good practice in energy management, keeping up to date with new energy saving initiatives and encouraging staff and the public to be energy aware.

Among the energy efficiency measures noted by EEAS's assessor were: recycling steam from the autoclaves used to cure aircrete recovering combustion heat to raise the temperature of boiler feed water and the recent installation of wind turbines to generate power.

H+H also makes efforts to increase awareness of energy efficiency with regular in-house briefing sessions and sending staff on training courses. The firm also has further investment plans to help reduce its CO2 emissions.

H+H's process systems manager said: "Not only are Celcon products 'light on the planet' in use, but this award demonstrates that we go to extraordinary efforts to minimise energy consumption in manufacture as well."
