Roofing boss to be charged with manslaughter

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is set to charge a Welsh roofing firm boss with manslaughter following the death of a teenage employee.

Daniel Dennis, 17, from Pyle in Bridgend, died after he fell through a skylight at a Matalan store near Newport in 2003. It was his seventh day working for Bridgend-based North Eastern Roofing.

The CPS is bringing the charge of manslaughter against Roy Clarke of North Eastern Roofing, following a judicial review of the case backed by the GMB union and solicitors acting for the Dennis family.

The CPS had previously decided in March that a prosecution against Clarke was unlikely to succeed.

But the High Court quashed the CPS decision in December.
