Shaylor Group trebles in size in three years

Shaylor Group has achieved a 40% jump in turnover to £43m, putting it on track to achieve its target figure of £50m in 2008.

The latest pre-tax profit was £2.2m (figure in previous year: £1.2m)

Shaylor’s results cover the 12 months to 31 March 2007. When the figures were assembled, the group had a forward orderbook of £38m-worth of confirmed work and a further £12m at preferred bidder stage.

Over the past five years Shaylor has trebled in size.

The four business units are:

  • Special Projects – contracts normally with a value of up to £1m
  • Strategic Alliance – working with the Ministry of Justice
  • Developments – industrial, commercial, retail and mixed-use schemes
  • Construction – the largest business unit

Shaylor evaluates its progress through several Key Performance Indicators. Three of these are:

  • Staff turnover – 17%, representing a rise from 12% in the previous year
  • Customer satisfaction rating – 85%
  • Total reportable accident rate – 772, based on UK Health & Safety Executive RIDDOR reportable accidents figures per 100,000 man-hours per year

Recent project wins:

  • £5.5m refurbishment of central library for Warwick University
  • £3.7m for the New Centre for Advanced Construction Technology
  • £3.5m for a pair of scheme at Birmingham University
  • £1.5m library for King Edward VI Camp Hill school
