Bid-rigging: Balfour Beatty granted leniency by OFT

Balfour Beatty has been granted leniency by the Office of Fair Trading in its bid-rigging investigation, thereby reducing any fines which may be imposed on Balfour Beatty or any of its operating business.

Balfour Beatty is one of 112 construction companies accused by the OFT in a Statement of Objections, following its bid-rigging investigation.

The OFT received 37 leniency applications during the investigation, which led to over 40 companies subsequently admitting participation in some bid-rigging activities.

A statement by Balfour Beatty said it "announced in June 2007 that it had undertaken a full review of the Group's compliance with the Competition Act... [and] is confident all of its subsidiaries are now fully compliant".

The statement added that Balfour Beatty would "respond to the OFT in respect of its Statement of Objections in due course".
