Plans to construct a wave power station in Lewis, Scotland that will be able to supply electricity to hundreds of homes have been unveiled.
The Siadar Wave Energy Project plans to use waves in Siadar Bay to generate up to four megawatts of electricity, enough to supply the average annual needs of 1,500 homes in Lewis and Harris.
The project is a collaboration between Npower Renewables and Inverness technology company Wavegen.
The plans were submitted to planning authorities this week and if approved, could begin construction next year, taking 18 months to complete and creating up to 50 construction jobs.
The scheme involves building a new breakwater about 350m from the shore to house the Wavegen turbines, the Scotsman reported.
