JCB chairman Sir Anthony Bamford has been appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers.
Sir Anthony said he was honoured and delighted to be recognised for his achievements. The Institution is the UK’s only professional body for designers operating in the many fields of engineering design including product design, architecture and the marine, automotive and aircraft industries.
Sir Anthony started his career with a two-year apprenticeship at Massey Ferguson in France and joined the family firm in 1964 working at JCB’s Staffordshire headquarters. Five years later he established JCB’s French subsidiary in Paris.
Since he took the helm in 1975, JCB has grown to become one of the world’s largest and most successful construction equipment manufacturers. It has won more than 50 awards (including 23 Queen’s Awards) for technological and export achievements, marketing, design and care for the environment.
