Almost 2,300 jobs have been lost in the construction industry in two days, as the housing downturn hits hard.
Barratt Developments’ announcement yesterday that it will cut around 1,000 jobs had the biggest impact on the job market.
But Galliford Try’s confirmation it will slash 256 jobs in its housebuilding section, also lowered confidence in the sector.
According to the Times, Ballymore is cutting 50 jobs – more than 10% of its workforce.
And Taylor Wimpey has announced it plans to dump 900 jobs and close a third of its regional offices.
The newspaper reported Bellway is also considering cutting about 250 jobs and Persimmon, Crest Nicholson and Countryside Properties are also contemplating job cuts.
