Five rivals are swotting up for a £37m deal at the University of Edinburgh.

The Royal School of Veterinary Studies project has attracted HBG, Robertson, Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Skanska.

The winner of the contest should be known by the end of August, with work on site starting in mid-September. The build period is between 80 to 90 weeks.

The new-build project, which will accommodate students training to become vets, will be between two to three storeys in height and span around 11,000m2.

The complex will include laboratories, lecture theatres, offices and a cafeteria.

Gardiner & Theobald is project managing the scheme, which has been designed by local architect BDG McColl.
