Interserve has won a £200m contract to build a water treatment plant for Thames Water in a consortium with Spanish company Acciona and Atkins Water.
Work on the project, expected to be completed by late 2009, has re-commenced after a planning appeal by former London Mayor Ken Livingstone was rejected and new Mayor Boris Johnson decided not to pursue a further challenge.
The plant, located in the London borough of Newham will supply up to 140 million litres a day, drawn from brackish water in the tidal Thames.
The award will be worth £50m to Interserve.
Interserve chief executive Adrian Ringrose said: "Interserve has a long and successful association with Thames Water and we are very aware of the key strategic part this plant will play in providing its customers with a long-term, high-quality water supply."
