ISG has been appointed as the preferred contractor for a £50m education project to build two schools in Ipswich.

They are the South West Ipswich school and the South Suffolk sixth form centre. Building is due to get under way early in 2009 with completion scheduled for the summer of 2010.

ISG’s latest score comes on the back of four other UK education wins within the last sic months that were worth a total of £80m:

  • £26m Sir John Deane’s College, Cheshire
  • £20m Gateway College, Leicester
  • £18m St John’s School, Marlborough
  • £13m St Brendan’s College, Bristol

David Lawther, ISG chief executive, said: “Education is an important sector for ISG. We have focused on it as part of our diversification strategy into non-cyclical earnings streams.

“These wins verify our ability to compete profitably in a sector worth £7bn a year.”
