Opposition is mounting to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games' (Locog) plans to build an equestrian circuit around Greenwich Park.
The Friends of Greenwich Park Group claim that the hundreds of horses expected to use the four-and-a-half mile course will damage the ground in London's oldest royal park irreversibly.
The group also claims that a line of oak trees will need to be uprooted and that the park will have to be closed to the public for 15 months before and during the Games, according to the Evening Standard.
A Locog spokesman said it was in discussions with the Royal Parks about how the space could be returned to its former state after the Games.
