Slow start for diesel filter compliance

By Paul Howard

Only three companies and five filter systems have made it onto the Energy Savings Trust's (EST) list of diesel particulate filters (DPF) complying with the requirements of the London Best Practice Guide. There have also been no certificated installations to date.

It costs the DPF manufacturers £2,000/year to register their company and another £2,000/year for each type of filter system they certify. Certification that the installation complies with the requirements is a one-off requirement done by the installer and should not incur a charge.

However, the EST has reassured plant owners fitting DPFs to their fleets that they should not be concerned about being caught in an argument between the engine builder and filter manufacturer in the event of a problem.

It said any complaints from customers will be taken into consideration when it is time to renew the DPF manufacturer's registration.
