Construction orders plunge once again

Experts claim the construction industry is in a recession after new statistics showed orders have plunged yet again.

The Office for National Statistics figures show new construction orders fell 7.5% in the second quarter compared to the first and were down 21% year on year.

Global Insight’s chief economist Howard Archer told the Scotsman the statistics showed the construction sector was “firmly in recession”.
