Tesco abandons eco-town plans

By Neil Gerrard

Tesco has shelved plans to build an eco-town at Hanley Grange, Cambs - the third such development to be abandoned in the face of local opposition.

The supermarket chain had planned to build 11,000 homes in the area.

The move means that there are now just 12 eco-towns still on the cards, from an original shortlist of 15.

The shortlist was due to be reduced to 10 later this year but Housing Minister Caroline Flint has admitted that the government is now looking at "up to" 10 sites.
