New Liverpool stadium delay

Plans for Liverpool FC's new £400m stadium at Stanley Park, to be built by Laing O'Rourke, have been delayed yet again.

The club put the delay down to the credit crunch. Enabling work at the site has already started.

It is thought that the American owners of the club, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, have had some difficulties in rasing cash for the ground, which is to be built at the current Anfield site.

A club statement said: "Our commitment to building a new world class LFC stadium is undiminished. Like many other major development projects in the UK and overseas we are affected by global market conditions and as such work on the project will be delayed in the short term."
