Persimmon subsidiary Space 4 axes jobs

Around 30 jobs have been axed at prefabrication manufacturer Space 4, as its parent company Persimmon comes to grips with the housing downturn.

The Birmingham MMC company, started in 2001, denied it would close its Castle Bromwich factory despite output of its prefabricated walls falling substantially.

Persimmon human resources director Richard Latham said: “Space 4… is mainly reliant upon the social housing market which still remains positive and they are currently developing new products.”

It is not known if the jobs are part of the 1,100 redundancies Persimmon announced it would make across its business in July.
