A 46-year-old man has died in a forklift accident at the construction site of one of Scotland’s biggest hydro-electric schemes.

The man was killed at 8am this morning at the £126m Glendoe hydro power project near Fort Augustus.

Ambulance officers said it was unclear how the man died, but that he had been involved in a forklift accident and had died at the scene.

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Energy said the man was working for contractor Hochtief on the construction of the dam.

An investigation into his death has been launched by police and safety officials.
