National and regional players are in the mix for a £100m-plus housing deal in the Midlands.
The Quantum Consortium has lined up a total of 27 firms to deliver its affordable housing programme, predominantly in the east Midlands area.
The plan is to build around 400 homes a year, under a four-year framework arrangement.
At least 40 firms sent in prequalification bids for the project. One contractor said: "This kind of job always attracts a big response - after all, the schemes mean several years of work.
"And the framework system means that both client and contractors can get to know each other over a sustained period."
The work for Quantum will be divided into three price bands: less than £500,000 between £500,000 and £5m and over £5m.
And it is understood that all the firms will have to send in mini-tenders before they win work.
The client gave a 60% weighting to quality and 40% to cost when making its final choices.
The Quantum group is composed of three housing associations - East Midlands Housing, Derwent Living and Futures Housing.
