£1m eco-home moved 300m after rare orchid discovered

The discovery of a rare orchid has forced developers of a £1m eco-home, designed by Sir Mick Jagger’s daughter Jade, to move it 300m.

Yoo, a firm co-founded by designer Philippe Starck, decided to move the property at Cotswold Water Park after discovering the green-flowered Helleborine.

The developer’s landscape and ecology manager Ben Pollard said the orchid was “nationally scarce”.

“There were 20 plants in a small spot in the wet, shady grass at the corner of one of the lakes,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

He said the building team originally considered moving the orchids to a different spot.

“We agreed with Cotswold district council planners that it would be too much of a risk so we moved the house instead,” Pollard said.

Almost 60 eco-friendly homes are being built on a 650 acre estate near Cirencester and feature interiors designed by Jagger and Sophie Conran.
