Bucking the looming recession, Cumbria-based Story Group is on the brink of landing one of its biggest-ever contracts, generating more than 125 full-time construction jobs.
The £120m deal involves regenerating the waterfront at Barrow-in-Furness. The plan is to create a 350-berth marina plus more than 650 homes on 36.4 ha of former railway siding land.
Construction is likely to begin in 2011 and the project is expected to run for 10 years.
Funded by government cash, the scheme will also feature retail and leisure facilities, plus a hotel and a sports ground.
The Marina Village scheme is being promoted by the borough council and regeneration company West Lakes Renaissance.
