London 2012 delays decision on use of Greenwich Park

A decision to hold the 2012 Games equestrian events in Greenwich Park has been delayed, after the London Olympic Board failed to endorse the proposal.

The board was expected to “rubber stamp” use of the park for the events following a favourable report by KPMG.

A spokesman for London 2012 said the report would now be considered at its meeting next month.

According to the Evening Standard, board members wanted more time to assess the issues associated with holding the event at Greenwich.

The option has attracted controversy over claims it would destroy the World Heritage site and involve the partial closure of the park for 10 months.

KPMG is understood to have backed the use of Greenwich, arguing that it would be value for money.
