Andrew McNaughton has been appointed to the new post of chief operating officer at Balfour Beatty.

He will oversee Balfour’s construction and engineering activities in the UK, the Gulf region, South-East Asia as well as the group's worldwide rail business.

McNaughton will report to chief executive Ian Tyler.

Tyler keeps overall responsibility for Balfour’s strategic development. He also retains:

  • line management responsibility for the Balfour’s US activity;
  • Balfour’s professional and technical services business;
  • central staff functions.

Anthony Rabin, deputy chief executive, retains his current responsibility for Balfour’s worldwide infrastructure investment business.

Tyler said: “Andrew's appointment reflects the need to create an appropriate senior management structure to direct and manage the continuing long-term growth of the group.

“Since joining Balfour in 1997, Andrew has been instrumental in the development of our major project capabilities.”

McNaughton, 44, is a board member of the Major Projects Association.

The appointment becomes effective from 1 January 2009.
