DHL wins Olympic logistic contract

DHL has won a contract to manage the delivery of materials to Olympic Park through the provision and management of a new logistics centre in Barking.

The logistics firm will have the Barking centre operating within weeks and manage deliveries and truck movements until June 2011.

The logistics centre is just one of three planned, with a road-based centre on the M11 in Chigwell and a rail centre in the heart of Olympic Park.

Working together, the three centres will facilitate the delivery of construction materials, plant and equipment by road, rail and water.

DHL supply chain chief Bruce Edwards said: “Drawing upon our expertise within the construction sector and our experience of delivering sophisticated supply chains across the world, we are confident that we can help the Olympic Delivery Authority meet its challenging time and cost constraints.”
