Ed Miliband plans low carbon and nuclear strategy

New energy secretary Ed Miliband will launch an industrial strategy to ensure British companies win work to re-build the UK’s nuclear industry and low carbon economy.

Mr Miliband told the Environment Agency the route map should be available next spring and would show companies how to take advantage of sustainability targets.

The minister, who took over the new Department for Energy and Climate Change, said it was clear an “active approach to industrial policy” was needed.

“We will be producing a low carbon industrial strategy in the spring to show how Britain can take advantage of the green opportunities that will be available in our economy.”

According to the Daily Telegraph, business leaders have expressed their need for industrial and manufacturing strategies to give investors better clarity on the government’s goals.

They have argued that over-reliance on the service sector is partly to blame for the recession.
