The £150m main works contract for improvements to Bond Street underground station is up for grabs, Transport for London (TfL) has revealed.

Details of the contract have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) today.

Works to the station include::

  • A remodelled ticket hall
  • New escalators
  • Lifts to provide step-free access
  • A new station entrance

The contract is expected to be awarded in spring 2009, with mobilisation starting in late 2009. TfL said it was currently "finalising" the number of tendering stages.

A spokesman added: “A separate contract will be let by Crossrail in due course for the construction of the new Crossrail station at Bond Street which will connect to the Tube station.

Bond Street will serve both the underground and Crossrail by 2017.
