Bovis Homes has sold some of its unsold housing stock to the government's National Clearing House in a deal worth £18m.

The National Clearing House enables house builders to sell their unsold stock to Housing Associations for use as affordable housing.

The deal includes 379 homes which are located throughout the country.

Communities and Local Government said that the National Clearing House has now brought 4,800 homes into use as affordable housing for a total of £160m, and more deals are expected.

Housing minister Margaret Beckett said: "We are determined to support house builders to weather the current downturn and we will continue to look at what more we can do."
