Shaylor snaps up ex-Pettifer staff

Shaylor has taken on three former employees of Pettifer Construction as it works to buck the trend by offering recruitment possibilities.

Steve Shaylor, chief executive officer, said: “We’ve tried to be positive and I’ve put out the message to all our people that we should try and buck the trend by looking to recruit.

“It is possible because we are winning work. For example we have been awarded a share in the Royal Mail’s 96 new branches, work spread over the coming 15 months, and that has resulted in six new jobs.”

Steve Shuck made the move from Pettifer to Shaylor two years ago. He is strategic alliance manager for the group’s Ministry of Justice framework.

“That framework accounts for 10%-15% of group turnover,” said Shaylor who is pleased to have recently attracted three more names from Pettifer.

The newcomers who found new employment after Pettifer went into administration two months ago include Shaun Colley who is working as a project manager for Shaylor on the £10m Heartlands Hospital in East Birmingham, one of the group’s most prestigious on-going projects.

With a senior role on site, Colley heads up a team of nine.

Also stepping across from Pettifer in the past few weeks come a senior QS and a QS.

In the current economic climate, Shaylor notes that most construction group employees – his group included – are opting to stay in their existing posts rather than hunt for free pastures.
