Amey wins £275m MAC contract

Amey was confirmed today as the new Managing Agent Contractor for Highways Agency area 9 worth £275m in the West Midlands.

The firm was tipped for the five year contract by CJ back in November.

Routes in Area 9 include motorways and trunk roads within the counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, and Shropshire and the Metropolitan Boroughs of Walsall, Sandwell and Dudley and the City of Birmingham.

The contract also covers bridge and winter maintenance and capital schemes up to £500,000.

Mel Ewell, Amey's CEO said: "Area 9 has one of the most important networks of roads in Britain, providing essential transport links between some of the country's largest industrial and metropolitan hubs. We are proud to have been selected as the Managing Agent Contractor and are wholly committed to maintaining an efficient and safe network for all road users."

The contract starts from from 1 July.
