Previously there has been concern about counterfeiting of simple items such as tower crane and jib sections but in recent months there have been reports of at least two other crane manufacturers reporting counterfeiting of their products.

While Terex is concerned with potential breach of its intellectual property and damage to its corporate identity, it said its greatest concern is that the counterfeit cranes pose a safety hazard due to their mix of different design features and unmatched components.

It advises buyers of used cranes in China to check the authenticity and seek support from the original equipment manufacturer as it requires more than checking serial numbers to spot a forgery.
