The rumour mill has it that three firms are still left in the hunt for a scheme to design and build a new £26m service station on the M25.
Sources say that only Haymills, Carillion and PJ Carey now have any realistic chance of bagging the deal for Swayfields between junctions 9 and 10 at Cobham.
An insider said: "This project has been around for the past 18 months and its format keeps changing. But the word is that only three firms are still answering questions. Carillion could be in a good position as it recently won a contract to build a similar project on the M40, junction 2 at Beaconsfield."
Work on site was due to get underway last August, but there is no new start date as yet.
