Investing for success

And now for some much-needed good news. Last week's Contract Journal Construction Industry Awards was a celebration of all the best of the UK's construction industry, and a great reminder of how many companies are passionate about driving their businesses forward and striving to be the best.

Construction is a determined, progressive, and highly competitive industry - and anyone on the CJ Awards shortlist had to jump several hurdles to get there due to the robust judging process.

Shortlisted firms are usually the ones who have invested in their businesses and their people, and who have worked hard to build a successful, sustainable future. Glowing customer references, great entries for categories such as the training and long-term partnering awards, and record entry levels are all signs that the industry has come a long way.

We are entering challenging times, but the CJ Awards are proof that our industry continues to deliver fantastic projects day-in, day-out. And no-one can deny that even during leaner times, there are opportunities to be had for companies that are ready to grab them.

■ Finally, it's the last chance to make your nomination to recognise the unsung hero in your business. We just need 100 words describing why you think your colleague is so inspirational and deserving of being considered a construction hero. Visit contractjournal.com/huntforheroes for all the details.
