David Wylie recently sent me these impressive photos of what are believed to be the last two remaining Cat 5130's at work in the United Kingdom.
Caterpillar first entered the mining sized excavator/shovel market in 1992. The 5130 was first shown to the public at the Minexpo show in Las Vegas in the same year.
Power was supplied by a 755 flywheel horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine and the machine weighed in around 193 tons depending on specification and could carry buckets from 11 - 14 cubic yards.
The 5130B seen here in backhoe configuration is currently at work at Tarmac's Swinden quarry in North Yorkshire.
It is seen here working at Swinden loading limestone into the largest crusher from Nordberg the LT160.

This 5130 in face shovel configuration is owned by Hall Construction Services Ltd. She is currently lying in Scotland and looks as if it hasn't moved for some time.
According to my good friend Stuart Bickley of Finning, at one time the UK had the highest population of 5130's (A&B series machines) in the world.
