Top down demolition Chinese style!

This amazing series of photos have been sent to me by our friends at Demoition News and as Mark Anthony says top-down demolition contracts usually involve mini excavators; but not in China.

In recent weeks, there has been much debate about US contractors' tardiness in adopting the ultra high reach (UHD) machines favoured by their European counterparts. But based on the following series of photos, even the most conservative US contractor remains streets ahead of the Chinese contractor that thought this was a good idea:

What appears to be a 21 ton machine is being lifted onto the top of the building.

And the machine gets to work, any operators out there who fancy a shift on this machine?

Have to say it all looks highly dangerous to me!

Hi Nick great blog!

Well.. I'm speechless, but noting surprises me any more in this game.

Having been a plant op for 23 years now I have seen, and partaken in my fair share of hair raising 'practices'. The kudos for the plant operator having pulled of the seemingley impossible is big.

Snap time talks up and down the nation are filled with tales of heroic daring that attain mythical status over time, even if they do get a little embroidered along the way ;)

This telling of stories from yesteryear is just one aspect about this line of work I really enjoy. But getting older, and hopefully wiser! I have come to realise how many of these dangerous practices are the result of an employer using that oft found emotion in construction personel: Bravado - to get an operator (or any other type of op for that matter) to do things in which his instincts are telling him otherwise. Especially, 'fearless' younger operators who are out to make a reputation for themselves. We've all been there I'm sure.

I do hope the op on that 20 tonner makes it down to ground level without so much as a scratch. I know I wouldn't be able to pass anything as big as a needle for the first week up there. Speaking of which, I can't see a thunderbox in any of those pics?? lol

Well... I was just about to reminisce about the time my old man slid 30ft down the blackjacked cables of his Babcock 75G tower crane with a jimmy bar in his pocket, to pry a cable from the back of the pulley it jumped off on the hook block, all while hanging 50ft over a busy dual carriagway, and what happened next.... But I'll save all that for the Monday morning brew!! ROFL..

Keep up the good work Nick!

Best Regards

Craig
