Call me a heretic but “sustainability” is a word that should be banned. It now means so little because everyone has latched onto it and used it for their own nefarious PR purposes.
That means lots of businesses ‘rebranding’ themselves to look all green and cuddly in the name of sustainability. So muckshift becomes something like: “Eco-conveyancing”, while crushing is transformed into, oh I don’t know: “Sustainable waste stone gradation system”. So forgive me for feeling a little cynical when it comes to the government’s London 2012 Sustainability Plan, which was launched recently. The unfortunate tagline for the plan is “Towards a One Planet 2012”. Yes, but what does that actually mean? That the Olympic Games are going to end up so bloated and over-budget they consume the entire planet?
