Coventry gets a makeover

Speaking of Christmas, in the traditional seasonal haze it must have passed me by that Coventry had been razed to the ground again.

According to news from Terex, two of its site dumpers and a tandem roller are helping "rebuild the city".

Now I know that its 1960s Cathedral is considered one of the ugliest in the country, but knocking it down seems a bit severe, particularly as it is one of the first examples of what we now know as sustainable construction, having been built using the rubble of the original alongside modern materials.

But reading on, it emerges that it's only the "historical city centre" that's being redeveloped, making way for a casino, hotel and apartments. You can't stop the march of progress.

Remarkably uninformed - both the original article (which is presumably referring to Belgrade Plaza; a minor redevelopment and not the whole city centre that is being redeveloped), and your comment that the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral is "considered one of the ugliest in the country".

The 1960s cathedral is a remarkable piece of architecture, sympathetic to its place in the rebuilding of Coventry after the war.

Perhaps you should take some time to visit the city before recycling such outdated and inaccurate comments ?
