News reaches me of much wailing and gnashing of teeth among construction union leaders this week.
Chiefs at UCATT, Unite and the GMB have spent months negotiating an industrial relations deal for the Olympics cooped-up with Laing O'Rourke's hatchet-man John Flavin. Talks were known to be "heated" but the union quartet were kept going by the rumour that Flavin was set to retire this month.
But their hopes have been dashed after Ray O'Rourke asked him to stay on for another year. Ex-UCATT executive member Flavin will no longer be seconded to the Olympic builders CLM but will be keeping a close eye on 2012 industrial relations from O'Rourke's head office.
Should keep the union boys on their toes for another 2 months at least...
