It was time to go a bit upmarket last week and swap my hi-vis vest for the old dickie bow and penguin suit for the Contract Journal Construction Industry Awards.
A sea of the industry's finest greeted me as I swayed slightly unsteadily down the steps of the Grosvenor Hotel's ballroom after one too many glasses of bubbly in the sponsors' lounge.
I could certainly get used to this - champagne instead of site tea and not a stroppy delivery driver in sight.
Well on with the food - and after a brief hiccup with the wrong cutlery, I'd stormed through three courses and loosened my cummerbund ready for the night's entertainment.
First up, was a Welsh comedian. I'd always thought that was an oxymoron and Rhod Gilbert certainly proved that. I've seen more smiles on site on tax return day.
But luckily the mood was lifted by the gorgeous BBC news presenter Emily Maitlis, who delivered the best joke of the night.
Talking about corporate takeovers, Emily said: "The next industry merger will be in the travel sector when Cunard and Aer Lingus join forces - although I can't imagine what they'll name that one."
Stunning and smutty. Now that's my kind of woman.
