Breaking news the old-fashioned way

It seems like everyone's a reporter these days thanks to the joys of Twitter.

The infuriatingly addictive service means the whole world and his dog can keep the rest of cyberspace up to speed with what's going on in their lives.

Industry figurehead Vaughan Burnand was even at it last week, Twittering away from the Mipim property show for our shrunken rival.

Readers were enthralled by regular 'tweets' on the weather and size of the crowds at the show.

What they didn't hear was the bigger story that Burnand is taking over as the new chairman of Constructing Excellence.

That tale was broken in Contract Journal last week by the old-fashioned method of talking to industry contacts.

It pays to stick with the professionals.
