You may have seen in last week's CJ that the City Legacy consortium won a £300m deal to build the Commonwealth Village in Glasgow.
They were obviously fairly quick to announce the good news, as most companies are when they land a big contract. But a couple of days later, I noticed that one of the losing bidders, the Broadway Malyan consortium (which included Arup and Laing O'Rourke) also issued a release, congratulating City Legacy and expressing its disappointment that it hadn't won.
Blimey. I thought we were back in a cut-throat world where contractors would stick their elbows in the face of the competition and sell their own grandmother to win a deal. Surely this kind of thing is far too sporting.
