And while we're on the subject of cowboy contractors I ran into a real charmer the other day. I was walking to work with Mrs Foreman when a perfect stereotype roared by in a white van sending water from a roadside puddle all over the pair of us. Hmm I thought, this is hardly considerate construction in action, so I decided to have a word with him as the traffic queue at the top of the road meant he couldn't roar off. I banged on his window and pointed out that he'd just covered me and my better half in filthy rainwater. I was expecting a show of contrition in these enlightened times and hoped he would apologise for upsetting a member of the public. But no. He simply called me a "cheeky ****" for having the temerity to confront him then started unbuckling his seat belt ready to get out for a more intense debate. I would have taken down his number and reported him as a non-believer in industry change - but I was running to fast to avoid a right-hander.
