'Wave' goodbye to energy shortages?

We've had some discussion here at the Greenhouse recently about the merits - or otherwise - of wind farms. Maybe the answer is tidal power?

Only recently I became quite excited by apparent movement on the long-since mooted plans to tap into the vast potential offered by the Severn Estuary. News reached the Greenhouse that consultants have been appointed to undertake a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and related engineering studies. My excitement diminished, however, when I looked a bit more closely at what this involved and found out it was basically saying we need another two years to work out whether or not it's a good idea. After all this time - I remember the whole idea being debated when I was at school in the 1980's - there is still the potential for the study to recommend scrapping the idea. Surely the question of whether or not it's a good thing could have been - should have been - answered by now? It all smacks of yet more prevarication and foot dragging by our pusillanimous political 'leaders' (and more good money for the consultants).
