Not Eco Towns but Eco Villages

CJ recently reported that planning permission has been granted for a 1,000 home Eco Village in Ashford. Cue a big hooray from sustainability enthusiasts?

Maybe not. The development will certainly be green/sustainable as its to be buit by Zed homes. But it is once again nothing more than a drop in the ocean of Ashford's meteoric rise from sleepy Kent town to gateway to Europe.
With 31,000 homes due to have been built in the town (should that be city or metropolis?) by 2031, why should only 1,000 be as green as they could be? Is it the same people who are presumably congratulating themselves on having the foresight to allow the Eco Village who have allowed the unsustainable squandering of resources implicit in the other 30,000 houses? Are they even aware of the contradiction?
